MP's Misguided Analysis of Mazar-e-Sharif Incident
The member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Elahe Koolaee has told IRNA that Iran's policy on Afghanistan lacks sufficiently realistic look at Iran's role in Afghanistan, domestic developments in Afghanistan and role of international players in that country.
She expressed hope that through reforms in the country's diplomatic apparatus as well as the factors influencing Iran's foreign policy can prevent the repetition of such incidents.
She said that after the Mazar-e-Sharif incident, realistic approaches to internal developments of Afghanistan emerged within Iran's domestic organs but the country has not yet been able to adjust its attitude to cope with the negative consequences of the event.
Iran's foreign policy is based on condemnation of Taleban's anti-Islamic and inhumane actions and Iran as many other countries do not recognize the entity. It is not clear what the MP wanted to convey. The use of terms such as "realistic look", "international players", etc., and emphasizing the importance of their consideration in formulating the country's foreign policy regarding Taleban's Afghanistan is reflecting the new approach made to Taleban by some western powers.
In this situation, specially with respect to the anniversary of the killings of Iranian diplomats and journalist in Afghanistan by Taleban and Iran's demand for the punishment of their murderers, these kind of remarks can not be justified under any circumstances.
It would have certainly been much better and more responsible for this MP, if instead of supporting others' views on Afghanistan, she would try to adopt a rational stance on Iran's relation with Taleban.
