TEHRAN -- ****The Last Supper****, directed by Fereidoon Jeirani and screened in cinemas since March 28, is among the New Year's releases. The film's cast includes Katayoon Riahi, Atila Pesyani, Soraya Ghasemi and Mohammad Reza Golzar.

Jierani announced that the current film is the same as the one screened in the Fajr Film Festival, but that he omitted two scenes from the original version of the film before it received its screening license. He believed that those scenes were not in accordance with the overall structure of the film, but later on he regretted one of the omissions he had made.

According to the director of ****The Last Supper**** , the name of the film was originally ****A Feminine Story****, but the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance objected to it. The film producer chose a few names, among which the present name was finally approved by Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Then Jeirani explained his reasons for choosing Katayoon Riahi to play the part of Mahin Mashreqi: "There were many candidates for this role and all of them were good, but considering the atmosphere of my film, finally we realized that Katayoon Riahi was the best choice." He said, "Although some might imagine that I chose Atila Pesyani because he starred in ****The Two Women ****, I did not have that film in mind when I chose him. In fact the personality of Naser Malek in ****The Red**** was similar to Pesyani's character. But later on when I saw that film, I thought his make-up and outfit very similar to those of the character in my film. If I had realized the similarity while we were making the film, I would certainly have changed his make-up and costume."

The director further noted, "Although I had another scenario to work on after ****Water And Fire ****, I preferred to work on this scenario because the first one was not quite ready. Besides, the film producer was also willing to work on this scenario." Expressing his opinion about the daughter in the film, he said: "I believe the separation of the mother from her daughter and the distance created between them is beautiful, since when the daughter enters the villa, her manner of meeting with her mother reveals how much she has suffered. In fact she has gone through a mental crisis."

Fereidoon Jierani believes that making a film like ****The Last Supper ***** is like taking a risk. "At the present time, different themes are chosen for the films. In fact when one chooses to work on this kind of subjects, one should be careful to have a sound and proper view in mind."

According to Jeirani, the confrontation of tradition and modernism in our country is troublesome.

He said that murder is one of the fixed elements in his films because he likes to work on his idea through psychological dramas. As a result, someone is always killed in his films.

In conclusion, Jeirani said: "My next film will be a masculine film, which will be quite different from the films I have already made. My last three films make a trilogy. I think now I had better make other types of films."
