Schroeder to Meet Chirac Over Iraqi Crisis

BERLIN -- German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will meet with French President Jacques Chirac on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in the Iraqi crisis, IRNA quoted DPA as saying by a government spokesman here on Monday.

The official added that both sides would also focus on other international and European political issues.

Berlin and Paris have been at odds over the future of European agricultural subsidies following the expansion of the European Union.

Schroeder broke with German political tradition by visiting London instead of Paris in his first foreign trip since his recent narrow reelection victory.

The chancellor met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair last week, hoping for Britain's mediation in the ongoing war of words between Berlin and Washington over the Iraq policy .
