CAIRO (AFP) (AP) -- Egyptian authorities have detained 11 members of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood, a security source said Saturday, as the regime pressed its crackdown on the banned opposition movement.
The Islamists were arrested late Friday during a raid on their homes in the town of Sakla, near Mansura in the Nile Delta. The 11 are accused of ""belonging to an illegal organization"", the source said, adding that ""security services found documents outlining the group's ideology in the flat where the meeting took place.""
The Muslim Brotherhood, which describes itself as a moderate Islamic organization that wants to bring Islamic law to Egypt, has been outlawed since 1954.
The group has more than a fifth of the seats in Egypt's parliament, but its representatives sit as independents because of its illegal status.
