TOKYO (Bloomberg) -- Sharp Corp., Japan's biggest maker of liquid-crystal display televisions, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Samsung Electronics Co., alleging infringement of patents in LCD modules.

Sharp is seeking damages and a halt in Samsung's production and sale of LCD televisions and modules in South Korea that infringe on three of its patents, the Osaka-based company said in an e-mailed statement Wednesday.
The suit, submitted to the Seoul Central District Court, follows a filing by Sharp in the U.S. on Aug. 6 against Samsung, the world's largest LCD maker, and two of its subsidiaries. The patents in the Korean case are for technologies to “achieve high brightness and high-speed response, as well as a wide-viewing angle,” Sharp said.
“Samsung will actively respond to this lawsuit as we have taken legal action previously against claims of patent infringements which we haven't used,” the Suwon, South Korea-based company said in an e-mailed statement.
LCD modules are glass panels fitted with parts such as chips and a backlight, used in electronics including televisions and computer monitors.
Sharp fell 0.3 percent to 1,959 yen at the end of trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while Samsung closed 0.8 percent lower at 598,000 won on the Korea Exchange. Sharp released the statement after markets closed.
