Indonesia's Wahid Comes Under Spotlight

JAKARTA Indonesia's top legislators lined up on Tuesday to respond to President Abdurrahman Wahid's account of his turbulent period in office, and were expected to put the Muslim cleric on notice over his erratic 10-month rule.
An apologetic Wahid on Monday, speaking at the start of the August 7-18 meeting of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), said he needed more time to pull the violence-torn and near bankrupt country back on its feet.
In a move likely to partly sooth an increasingly angry MPR, Wahid would probably reshuffle his discredited cabinet later this month, his Foreign Minister and confidant Alwi Shihab said.
Wahid and Vice-President Megawati Sukarnoputri arrived at the assembly at 0715 GMT for what was expected to be a marathon session of responses from the 11 MPR political factions.
The nearly blind 60-year-old Wahid will in turn reply on Wednesday.
