Respect for Law Key to Social, Political Development

August 9, 2000 - 0:0
Ever since Sunday, when the debate on the Press Law amendment was removed from the agenda of the Majlis in compliance with the decree issued by the Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, some developments have taken place in Tehran which are harmful to social and political health of society.
The fact is that the Constitution of the Islamic Republic is the best instrument for ironing out differences of opinion among different political groups and factions.
Thus, there is no need to raise an uproar and engage in illegal activities, as the law of the land has the answer to all disputes.
In reaction to the incident that occurred in the Majlis on Sunday, a sit-in was staged in front of the Parliament for two consecutive days, for which permission had not been issued by the Interior Ministry.
When rallies and demonstrations are held without obtaining the necessary permission from the relevant officials, some outsiders may infiltrate such gatherings and chant the type of slogans that undermine the status of the state organs, including the Majlis, and this is something strongly disapproved by the Leader.
The enemies of the Islamic Revolution are making every effort to fan the flames of discord in society.
From the way some foreign broadcast media have covered the Sunday's incident and the ensuing developments, it has become quite clear that they are out to pit different political factions against one another.
To counter such plots requires more vigilance on the part of all forces present on the country's political scene. This vigilance is mostly manifested in respect for the law of the land and avoiding whatever action that disturbs peace and security in the country.
