KUALA LUMPUR -- An Iranian airliner destined for Kuala Lumpur made an emergency landing in India's Mumbai Airport on Friday afternoon after developing a technical failure.

An informed source told IRNA that the Iran Air Flight 840 that had left Tehran earlier in the day was expected in the Malaysian capital at 10:00 P.M. local time (1430 GMT), but had to make the emergency landing in Mumbai at 5:30 P.M. local time.

However, the source did not provide further details on what caused the failure and when the plane had landed in the Indian city.

The source, who asked not to be named, said another plane has been sent to Mumbai from Tehran to take the passengers to Kuala Lumpur.
