DUBAI - Saudi Arabia on Saturday inaugurated the $66 million King Fahd Dam which Saudi Media called the largest concrete dam in the Middle East. Official Saudi Media said Crown Prince Abdullah inaugurated the dam, which has a storage capacity of 325 million cubic meters, in the southwestern Bishah Valley. State-run television said the dam, built at a cost of 246 million riyals ($66 million) was 103 meters (340 feet) high and 225 meters (740 feet) long.

Saudi Media have said the dam would collect water from 40 different valleys. Saudi Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz bin Muammar, who also attended the inauguration ceremony, said King Fahd had issued an order to build a water treatment plant at the dam at a cost of 84 million riyals, the television said.
