TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Mohammad Alirezaii improved Iran's 200 meters breaststroke at the 8th World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Shanghai, a seaport in eastern China, Friday.

The swimmer, who stood 34th in overall rankings, clocked 2min 25.65sec, improving the previous mark belonged to Baktash Qeydi by 4.16 seconds.

Alirezaii ranked third, following his rivals from Japan and Kazakhstan in the group.

The Iranian also improved the country's 100m breaststroke Wednesday.

He registered a 1min 2.90sec record, improving his own mark, 1:07.14, by 4.24 seconds.

According to the federation, 128 countries have participated in the world event.

Breaststrokers competed in nine groups and Alirezaii is Iran's sole representative in the international meet.
