TEHRAN (ISNA) – Iranian aviation engineers have successfully designed the first domestically-made plane engine.

"One of Iran's aviation industrial unities after researches had executed a number of tests regarding the production of turbine engine and after providing equipment, facilities and testing devices they produced a TV3 engine in cooperation with Ukraine," said Iran's Civil Aviation Organization deputy CEO, Alireza Manzari.

"This engine can be used in airplanes such as Iran-140 and various types of helicopters and through making this engine Iran has reached self-sufficiency in this type of engine," added this official.

CAO official also pointed out that one third of an airplane's price is allocated to its engine; therefore, this project can be taken as a sufficiently economical one.
