TEHRAN (CHN) – Following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Interior, Iran’s cabinet ministers announced Chazabeh border region in Khuzestan Province as an international territorial border. Based on this act, passengers can now enter Iran through this border provided that they have valid passports.

This decision will create 600 job opportunities, a number which is expected to reach 4000 in a near future.

Chazabeh International Border was inaugurated on 3 May 2006 by the Minister of Interior as an import/expert business border and a transportation gateway for Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims.

After Shalamcheh, Chazabeh is the second territorial border in Khuzestan Province through which Iran has business interactions with Iraq. Now this new decision will increase trade relations between the two countries.

According to director of Khuzestan’s Trade Organization, economic development of the city of Dasht-e Azadegan, creating job in the region and decreasing the unemployment rate, and creating business relations between Iran and Iraq are the major purposes behind opening the Chazabeh border to the foreigners.

The most exported goods to Iraq are different species of fish, iron, vegetables, construction materials, and water chillers. More than 80 percent of commodities exported to Iraq from Iran were sent by organizations with Khuzestan Province.

A border market has also been established in Chazabeh which is located 20 kilometers southwest of the city of Dasht-e Azadegan and shares borders with Al-Amareh in Meisan province of Iraq. More than 300,000 U.S. dollars has been allocated for construction of this border market and providing facilities in this region. Within a few months a customhouse will be established in this area.
