TEHRAN -- Director Hadi Marzban and actor Daniel Hakimi have been invited to the 24th International Theater Festival in Freiburg, Germany, which will be held in June, ISNA reported on Monday.

Marzban, the winner of the best director award at the 24th Fajr Theater Festival in Tehran in 2006, and Hakimi, the winner of the best actor award for his role in the play “Rainy City’s Melody” at the same festival, have announced that they will be participating in the event.

Upon the invitation of Freiburg festival artistic director Dieter Kummel, three Iranian plays will be staged during the event, “A 2x2 War” directed by Nima Dehqan, “The Fact Is that the Sun Revolves Around Us” written and directed by Siamak Ehsaii, and “Only God Can Wake Me Up” directed by Mohammad Aqebati.

“A 2x2 War”, written by Hamidreza Azarang, focuses on issues related to the Iran-Iraq war.

Playwright Mohammad Charmshir’s “Only God Can Wake Me Up” is about the friendship between a child with cancer and one of the nurses at the hospital.

Ehsaii’s “The Fact Is that the Sun Revolves Around Us” is based on an Italian short film.

The 24th International Theater Festival in Freiburg will present productions addressing faith and religion -- a theme which is gaining new significance as reflected in current discussions in today's society.

The festival will place particular emphasis on acquainting audiences with Islamic-influenced theater tradition and the current Iranian theater scene.
