TEHRAN -- The Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) will be inaugurating today the Sufar Center, which will be the first children’s professional center for teaching pottery, at Besat Park in Tehran.

Sofal (earthenware) was once called Sufar in the Persian language.

IIDCYA managing director Mohsen Chiniforushan and some officials of District 16 of the Tehran Municipality are scheduled to attend the opening ceremony.

The center, covering an area of 550 square meters, has been equipped with kilns and ten potter’s wheels, a library, glazing rooms, and halls for film and slide show presentations.

The organizers aim to familiarize children with the importance of pottery as an art form and to develop and enhance their creativeness and technical abilities.
