TEHRAN – The 250 MW Karun-3 in Iran’s southern province of Khuzestan will increase the nation’s hydroelectric capacity to 6,542 MW, operation, maintenance and repair director of Khuzestan hydropower plants noted on Sunday.

“Over 91.3% of the country’s hydroelectric power is generated in Khuzestan and Karun-3 is going to raise the province’s share to 5,995 MW by yearend (Iranian year ending March 20, 2007)”, Shokrollah Abbasi continued.

Moreover, hydroelectric plants account for 15.2% of total electricity supply across the land in the first half of the year of which the southern province assumes 14.2%.

Abbaspur, Karun-3, Masjed Soleiman, Dez, Karkheh and Marun are six of the country’s 19 plants located in Khuzestan.
