TEHRAN — Iranian and Ukrainian officials discussed Tehran-Kiev bilateral trade and economic ties during a meeting in Kiev on Thursday.

Iranian ambassador to Ukraine Seyyed Musa Kazemi and Ukrainian economy minister Vladimir Makukha discussed the need for the expansion of ties in economic and trade fields.

Describing Tehran-Kiev relations as fruitful, Ukrainian minister said that his country is determined to develop ties with Iran.

Iran and Ukraine have numerous grounds to develop relations, he said, voicing the readiness of his country to boost ties with Iran in new sectors such as oil and gas as well as aircraft-building industry.

Ukraine is also interested in importing gas from Iran, Ukrainian official stated, calling for conducting surveys on how to export Iran’s gas to his country.

Promoting the presence of private sectors in the expansion process of bilateral ties and bolstering the activities of Iran-Ukraine joint economic commission were other issues Ukrainian minister called for.

On his part, Kazemi said that Iran and Ukraine are playing important roles in Middle East and Eastern Europe and they may utilize their standings for the expansion of ties, he added.

He also noted that the entire use of current ‘potentials’ is a key factor to boost economic and trade relations.
