TEHRAN — The fifth unit at Parand Gas-Fueled Power Plant was synchronized with the national power grid, Mohammad Behzad, the managing director of Iran Power Development Company (I.P.D.C) said here on Monday.

Having the capacity to produce 159 MW of electricity, the unit came on stream 52 days ahead of schedule, he added.

The official stated that the fourth unit at the power plant was also synchronized with the network late August 2006, some 22 days in advance.

Being constructed in a land area as large as 100 hectares, Parand power plant has six units each with the capacity to generate 159 MW of electricity per day, Behzad explained. He expressed hope that the sixth unit would become operational according to the timetable.

He also explained that the power plant uses gas and gasoline as main and substitute fuels respectively, therefore, “two tanks each with a capacity to store 20,000 cubic meters of gasoline are included in the equipment at the power plant.”
