TEHRAN -- Iranian director Mehrdad Oskuii said here on Wednesday digital cinema has sped up the filmmaking procedure, cutting the thinking process in short film production.

It denies the filmmaker the chance to do a thorough research, leading to unsuccessful function of the technology in the genre, he added. Commenting on the entries to the 23rd Tehran International Short Film Festival opened on Tuesday, Oskuii added, “Lack of idea is one of the shortcomings I have found out in most of the works. Many of them have taken painstaking efforts, but they lack a central and cohesive idea and the filmmakers are unable to express themselves desirably.”

The jury member of the event which runs until Nov. 26 also noted that some works’ screenplay was written without any preliminary research and made at the shortest possible time.

To produce an everlasting work, a filmmaker should dedicate enough time to do research on a subject, the director of “Iranian-Style Nose” stated. “However, there are some good and impressive works being featured at National Cinema and the Youth Cinema sections of the event.”
