Bucharest (Chinaview) -- Romania will receive from the EU, 560 million euros (about 72 million U.S. dollars) for border security, announced Romanian Interior Minister Vasile Blaga.

According to him, in 2007, 270 million euros (about 350 million dollars) will come for creating the database for setting up the Schengen II system. In Blaga's opinion, five years have to pass for Romania to meet the conditions for entering the Schengen space.

"I gave as example the fact that the states that joined the EU on May 1, 2004 need 4-5 years, some of them with zero foreign borders," Blaga emphasized. He added that Romania has 2,070 km of border and the level of its border security is very good.

"Romania presented on March 31, 2006 the updated multi-annual investment plan, which aims at finalizing the border-securing process by January 1, 2012," said Blaga.
