TEHRAN (IRNA) -- German Deputy Foreign Minister for planning affairs on Wednesday expressed hope that grounds would be prepared for expansion of relations between Iran and the European Union.

According to Majlis Press Department, Ralf Josef Traf made the remark in a meeting with MP Mohammad Khosh-Chehreh.

Pointing to the prominent status of Iran in Germany's foreign policy, the German official called for promotion of ties and cooperation between Tehran and Berlin.

He also expressed hope that the current problems and crisis in the region would be resolved soon.

Khosh-Chehreh, for his part, welcomed the exchange of research and scientific delegations between the two countries, saying that this will play an effective role in adopting rational and appropriate decisions and developing political interactions between the two states.

The MP, representing Tehran in the Majlis, hoped that reflection of socio-economic and political realities of the Islamic Republic as well as having proper image of the Iranian democratic system based on Islam will play an effective role in the decision-making process and development of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Khosh-Chehreh, who is also the rapporteur of Majlis Economic Commission, noted that some economic problems in Iran emanated from its copying western economic models in the past. "Gap between various social classes, immigration of villagers to cities, and lack of attention to rural areas have been among the most important consequences of such policies," he said, adding, "The government and Majlis are after changing such a models through effective measures."
