TEHRAN -- The Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) Research Center Director Taha Hashemi announced that a list comprising sixty Iranian natural and historical sites has been recently prepared for registration on UNESCO list.

A Total of 47 historical monuments and 13 natural sites have been selected, documented and listed by the experts, he told Mehr News Agency on Friday. Hashemi explained that each country must introduce a temporary list of monuments and sites to UNESCO, and this list can be re-examined every 10 years. “After the establishment of the CHTHO High Council of Registration, two committees were formed to study and introduce our historical and natural heritage locations. Over 100 sites were submitted, of which 47 were documented,” He added. With reference to the large number of places of natural heritage in Iran, he said that none of them have so far been registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Grand Bazaar of Tabriz and the Mausoleum of Sheikh Safieddin in Ardebil are among the historical sites mentioned on the list
