Saudi Arabia's Al-Deayea Voted Asian Goalkeeper of the Century

DUESSELDORF Saudi Arabia's Mohammed al-Deayea has been voted Asia's goalkeeper of the century by the continent's top sports journalists and football experts, it was announced Thursday. The 26-year-old who kept goal for his country in the 1994 and 1998 world cups received 54 points, over a third of all cast in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics Poll. Second with 18 points was Iran's Nasser Hedjazi, who took part in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina and helped his side to win the Asian Nations Cup three times (1968, 1972, 1978).

Third was South Korea's In-Young Choi (15), who helped his side in their 1990 and 1994 World Cup campaigns and let in just 34 goals in 53 appearances for his country. Fourth was China's Hui-Kang Zhang (14), who kept goal for his country in the 1988 Olympics and the Asian Championships, while joint fifth was his successor Yubin Fu (8). Also joint fifth Bahrain's Hamoud Sultan and India's Peter Thangaraj, followed by Kuwait's Khaled al-Fadhli and Qatar's Mohammed Wafah Saami (both 7) and Malaysia's Chow Chee Keong (6).
