“Persian Carpet” receives welcome in Canada

TEHRAN -- Reza Mirkarimi, producer of the documentary “Persian Carpet”, which was an entry at the 31st Montreal World Film Festival, said that the film had been the source of great pride amongst Iranians residing in Canada.
Mirkarimi noted that both Iranian and foreign audiences had been very keen on various episodes of the documentary and that it had helped introduce Persian carpets to the world.The movie was screened in the gala’s Hors Concours (out of competition) section of the festival, which ran from August 23 to September 3.
“Persian Carpet” is a documentary produced in 15 episodes by 15 renowned Iranian directors including Abbas Kiarostami, Behruz Afkhami, Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Bahram Beizaii, Jafar Panahi and Kamal Tabrizi.
Each episode of the film has its own narrative form and features a different aspect of Persian carpets.
Filmmaker Khosro Sinaii also mentioned that the documentary had assisted in drawing world attention to this unique Iranian art form, adding, “The screening was a good advertisement for Persian carpets and various sections of the doc were very well received by the audiences.”
“Persian Carpet” was screened three times at the festival and its Iranian directors took part in two sessions in which they gave further details about their work.
The participating directors were Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Jafar Panahi, Khosro Sinaii, Reza Mirkarimi, Kamal Tabrizi, Seifollah Daad, and Amir Esfandiari, head of the International Department of the Farabi Cinematic Foundation.
