Stories by British women published in Persian

TEHRAN -- Iranian publishing company Khojasteh has recently released the book “Stories by British Women Authors”, a compilation of Persian translations of eight short stories authored by British women writers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
The book features Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell’s “The Manchester Marriage”, Lady Margaret Majendie’s “A Railway Journey”, Margaret Oliphant’s “A Story of a Wedding Tour”, Ada Radford’s “Lucy Wren”, and Ella Hepworth Dixon’s “The Sweet o’the Year”.Translated by Nahid Tabatabaii, the book also includes stories by Ella D’Arcy, and Ada Leverson.
In the introduction of the book, Tabatabaii has highlighted the key role women writers have played in the development of the culture and aesthetics of short story writing during nineteenth century.
“During the period, writing was regarded as one of the prestigious professions for women. Thus, it became a source generating income for single women and widows, or those who wanted to help their husbands by earning a living,” Tabatabaii said.
The collection is from the Romantic era
