STOCKHOLM (Xinhua) -- A new opinion poll has indicated that an increasing number of Norwegians are opposed to joining the European Union (EU), reports reaching here from Oslo said Monday.

The poll, which was conducted by Norwegian broadcaster NRK in January, showed that 54.3 percent of Norwegians would vote against seeking EU membership with 34.6 percent in favor of such a move, if a referendum is held in Norway. Over 11 percent remained undecided.
The split between the ""yes"" and ""no"" sides is 19.7 percent, one percent higher than that of the previous poll in December.
Norway's current center-left coalition government, which includes the most staunch anti-EU movement, the Center Party, has decided that it will not raise the issue of EU membership during this parliamentary period, the NRK said.
