TEHRAN, Mar. 02 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini has slammed the Western powers’ allegations against Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities as baseless propaganda.

Recently a claim has been made that Iran was involved in weaponization studies including clandestine uranium enrichment in order to overshadow a declaration by the IAEA that Iran has answered all the remaining questions about its nuclear activities.
“Certain countries’ accusations about Iran’s alleged studies are more about propaganda. In fact they are too unjustifiable to bring new charges against Iran,” Hosseini told reporters in his weekly press briefing on Sunday.
“The Westerners’ approach shows that these countries are not truly seeking a peaceful settlement to Iran’s nuclear issue,” he added.
The spokesman said the latest report by International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei on Iran’s nuclear program has refuted all allegations against Iran’s nuclear drive.
ElBaradei presented a report to the IAEA Board of Governors on Feb. 27 which vindicated Iran by reaffirming its nuclear transparency.
“The agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran,” ElBaradei said in the report.
“Unfortunately some countries at the Board of Governors are trying to pursue their inappropriate policy… .However, we support ElBaradei’s report and we hope that other countries will adopt a stance in line with reality,” Hosseini stated.
---------- Merkel’s surprising comments
The Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed surprise at German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s recent remarks about Iran’s nuclear activities.
In a meeting with Charlotte Knobloch, the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany on Thursday, Merkel claimed there were suspicions that Iran's nuclear program ""does not conform to the rules of transparency and one cannot be certain, therefore, that it serves peaceful purposes.""
“Generally, governments adopt their official stances based on strong evidences and documentations. It is really surprising that Ms. Merkel, as Germany's chancellor, has announced her stance towards Iran’s peaceful objectives based on suppositions,” Hosseini stated.
The spokesman urged Merkel to pay close attention to the latest IAEA report which has clearly confirmed the transparency of Iran’s activities.
Merkel’s accusations come at a time when Germany has supplied Israel with two Dolphin submarines, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, as part of efforts to increase Israel’s nuclear capabilities, Hosseini argued.
---- American-Iranian Council chairman in Iran
The spokesman confirmed reports that the head of the American-Iranian Council Houshang Amirahmadi has recently traveled to Iran with the permission of President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.
He said Amirahmadi is on a personal visit and is not expected to hold talks with Iranian officials.
----------- U.S. warship in Lebanon waters provocative
Hosseini described Washington's dispatch of a warship to the waters of Lebanon as “very suspicious and provocative”.
The United States said on Thursday it had sent a guided-missile destroyer to the waters of Lebanon, which has been embroiled in a paralyzing political crisis for months.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said the move was aimed at fueling violence in the Arab country.
“Basically the U.S. policy is to interfere in the internal affairs of the regional countries. Washington has been continuously pursuing to deepen civil strife in Lebanon.”
The dispatch of the USS Cole to Lebanon waters, the Annapolis conference, and the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza are all part of the U.S. efforts to create tension in the region, Hosseini observed
