No peace talks until Israel ends Gaza violence: Hamas

TEHRAN, Mar. 11 (MNA) – Hamas will not respond to Israel’s calls for truce talks unless it stops attacking Palestinians and lifts the Gaza blockade, Hamas spokesman Ismael Rezvan said on Tuesday.
Last week an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip killed more than 125 Palestinians many of them civilians.According to Reuters, Egypt is working on a Gaza truce proposal to present to Israel and Hamas.
Rezvan said a number of Palestinian officials have held talks with Egyptian leaders on ways to end the Gaza crisis.
“We always keep in mind the interests of the Palestinian nation… and we are in constant contact with Egyptian officials about the issue of Palestine. The problem lies with the Zionists who are committing crimes against us with full power,” he told the Mehr News Agency.
“This ceasefire should be comprehensive and mutual. As far as the Zionist enemy is attacking Palestine, truce is meaningless,” he added.
Rezvan said, “The Zionist enemy has repeatedly proved that it never abides by its commitments,” therefore Hamas will enter into talks with Israel only if the Gaza violence is reined in, he asserted.
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniya had earlier said, ""We appreciate what Egypt is undertaking… Hamas will help the Egyptian leadership to reach a reciprocal and simultaneous truce.""
