TEHRAN – Lithuania’s new ambassador to Tehran and the president of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) here on Saturday called on promotion of bilateral customs and trade cooperation.

Stressing Iran’s position and role in the World Customs Organization (WCO), the president of IRICA said that Iran is one of the WCO’s senior members which has so far accepted over 10 related conventions and still acts according to them.
Hashem Rahbari regretted the decrease in trade volume between the two countries in the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 19), and talked about Iran’s policies in regard to the export of commodities, adding that except in two or three cases the country has no specific limitation in exports.
Prior to this, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meet with the ambassador here on Monday called for the expansion of relations between Iran and Lithuania.
President Ahmadinejad pointed out that there were huge untapped economic potentials in the two countries in the fields of tourism, industry, research, science and technology.
The Lithuanian diplomat, for his part, voiced his country's willingness to broaden ties with Tehran and said Lithuania calls for expansion of all-out relations and cooperation with Iran in the fields of economy, politics, culture, customs, tourism and exchange of university students
