TEHRAN -- Iraqi national security advisor Muwafaq al-Rubaie on Monday stated that “under no circumstances” can the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) members stay in Iraq.

“The Iraqi government has made a serious decision to expel the residents of Camp Ashraf and has informed them that they have only two options: they can either return to Iran or go to another country,” he told reporters at Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran.
The Iraqi government took over the control of Camp Ashraf home to 3,500 MKO members on January 1, as part of a bilateral security deal between the U.S. and Iraq.
The terrorist group members must soon leave Iraq, he insisted.
On the issue of the Iranian diplomats held in Iraq, he pointed out that the Iranian diplomats are still kept in detention by the U.S. forces.
U.S. forces broke into the Iranian consulate in Iraq’s Kurdish city of Arbil on Jan. 11, 2007, detaining three Iranian diplomats.
U.S. forces currently hold about 15,000 prisoners in Iraq and according to the recent security deal, the U.S. will hand 1,500 prisoners over to the Iraqi government every month, he explained.
Al-Rubaie also said his trip to Tehran is aimed at preparing the ground for implementing the Tehran-Baghdad agreements which were signed during Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s recent visit to Tehran
