Didier Drogba thanked Chelsea's fans after winning the club's Player of the Year award for the first time after scoring 33 goals so far this season.

Despite leading Chelsea's line with distinction for the past six years, the club's top player gong has eluded Drogba until after his 32nd birthday. A big personality on the pitch, but an undoubtedly humble one off it, Drogba invited the Chelsea team onto the stage to help him accept the award.
The vastly improved Florent Malouda picked up the Player's Player of the Year, Goal of the Season went to Ashley Cole and Young Player of the Year was awarded to Chelsea's entire Under 18 squad, who won the Youth FA Cup on Tuesday, at Chelsea's annual awards night at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

My only desire was to love this club and win a lot of trophies. This is the happiest I have ever been and I want this moment to continue for years and years.""
Cole's goal, voted Chelsea's best by the club's fans, came in January against Sunderland as he memorably controlled, manouvred and chipped the ball into the net after a trademark sortie forward from left back.
Meanwhile, an interview with a French magazine revealed Drogba's longing for his old club Marseille, but the Ivory Coast star conceded it's difficult to foresee a set of circumstances that would allow his return to Stade Velodrome. In his single season at the French club before being snapped up by Chelsea, Drogba swiftly established himself as a firm fan's favourite as his 11 goals in Europe fired them to the UEFA Cup final.
""I miss Marseille. That's true,'' Drogba told France Football. ""I have many friends there among the managers, but also from the club physios to the baker on the corner. But I have already said, it would be hard to go back. Moreover, I would prefer to avoid this question because that could lead to misunderstandings, whether in France or in England. If I ever return to Marseille it will come about naturally.''
