MASHHAD – Mohammad-Nabi Habibi, the secretary general of Islamic Coalition Party, has commented that it is essential that reformists be active in the country’s political scene.

Those reformist groups who are loyal to the system, the Constitution, and velayat-e faqih (rule by the supreme jurisprudent) must be allowed to practice politics, Habibi told a press conference held at the office of his party in Mashhad on Saturday.
“The presence and competition of all (political) persuasions, which are within the system, are necessary, so we should not seek to eliminate the rivals who believe in the system,” he said.
Trying to end activities by reformists is a “bad idea”, the conservative party leader noted.
“Some people under the pretext of seeking reforms tried to topple the system during the post-election sedition (political unrest following the June 2009 presidential election),” he said, adding this group of reformists should be treated differently.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the politician said that the principlist groups who are not in power should not attack the administration and the parliament, because undermining the ruling principlist groups will result in the weakness of the principlists as a whole. If the administration and the parliament lose the public support due to their inefficiency, all principlist groups will suffer, he added.
