TEHRAN Another Iranian, Ali Sobhani, who is a Basiji, has been missing for over four weeks and still there is no news about his fate, his brother said yesterday. Talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, Ahmad Sobhani said, My brother Ali went to Mosque Hazrat Reza (AS) on Teymoori Avenue on Nov. 9 and has not returned home yet. All members of our family are worried and have done everything to find Ali, but unfortunately there is no trace of him, former Iranian ambassador to Gabon, Sobhani said.

Asked whom he suspects, Sobhani said, We really don't know what motive could be behind the abduction of Ali. But, said Sobhani, it's the job of the Law Enforcement Forces to nab the culprits. We reported to the police on the very same day when Ali disappeared and so far no success has been made by them in revealing the fact, Sobhani said.

According to his brother, Ali Sobhani is 34 years old and married with two sons. Ali disappeared over four weeks ago, just 10 days after his second son was born, he said. Regarding Ali Sobhani's occupation, his brother said, Well, Ali was a cloth merchant and, as a Basiji, he was also active for the defense of the values of the Islamic Revolution, he told the TEHRAN TIMES. Some 17 years ago, our father, the late Javad Sobhani, was martyred by Munafeqin (the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization), Sobhani said.

And also some 14 years ago, my other brother Hassan Sobhani was martyred while defending our homeland from the Iraqi invaders, Sobhani said. Ali also fought on the war front during the imposed war, he added. On Thursday, it was reported that a writer has gone missing in the latest disappearance of writers. His relative announced that Mohammad Jafar Pouyandeh, a 45-year-old translator and author, had gone missing after he left his Tehran office on Wednesday afternoon.

We have contacted all relevant authorities, including police, hospitals, and the morgue, with no trace of him to be found, a relative told Reuters. Pouyandeh is the third author who has disappeared in the past month in the wake of the slaying last month of Dariush Forouhar, a veteran opposition figure, and his wife Parvaneh. Pouyandeh was reported missing on the day the body of poet Mohammad Mokhtari was found after he had disappeared in Tehran last week.

The cause of Mokhtari's death was unknown, but a newspaper quoted a relative saying his body bore bruises around the neck. Majid Sharif, who had returned to Iran a few years ago, was found dead after disappearing last month. Iranian officials said he had died of a heart attack.
