“Outcasts 3” pirated

TEHRAN -- “The Outcasts 3” director announced on Tuesday that his film, which is currently on screen in the Iranian movie theaters, has been pirated.

Masud Dehnamaki said that a copy of the film has been put on the Balatarin website by “so-called intellectuals”.
The political comedy mimics Iranian candidates campaigning in the June 2009 presidential election.
“We are the winners whether people watch ‘The Outcasts’ in cinemas or at their homes,” Dehnamaki said.
However he expressed hope that people will prefer to watch the film in movie theaters.
The pirated copy has been recorded from a screen at a movie theater, director of Filmiran, the distributor of the film, told the Persian service of ISNA on Thursday.
“The pirated copy is of a very low quality and the film’s sounds can not be heard,” Ali Sartipi said.
He said that the piracy can not undermine the box office receipts.
Dehnamaki had previously said that he has joked with everybody in the film, even with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“I am ready to cope with any censure,” Masud Dehnamaki stated.
Reza Ruigari plays the role of a candidate, whose wife, played by Behnush Bakhtiari, appears as his aide during the presidential campaign. The couple is associated with Zahra Rahnavard and Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the major rival of Ahmadinejad in the June 12, 2009 presidential election.
Dehnamaki had sad that he is joking with politics in “The Outcasts 3”, expressing his hope that politicians show tolerance.
Dehnamki was one of the people rumored to be among President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s candidates for the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the former administration in 2005.
Due to their close friendship with Dehnamaki, many high-ranking Iranian officials including the minister of culture and Islamic guidance and his assistant have met with him on location when he was shooting the previous sequels over the past three years.
