TEHRAN – Iranian warships have thwarted pirates’ efforts to attack and hijack an Iranian vessel.

The Navy’s warships prevented the pirates from taking hostage a 300-ton oil tanker en route from Khark Island in Iran to an Egyptian port.
This is the fourth time Iranian vessels have been attacked by pirates since the beginning of the new Iranian calendar year which started on March 21.
In March, the 13th fleet of Navy warships was dispatched to the Gulf of Aden and international waters in order to protect the trade vessels and oil tankers sailing in the region
