MELLAT-E MA in a news report quotes Hamid-Reza Pashang, a member of the Majlis Development Commission, as saying that newly appointed oil caretaker Mohammad Aliabadi is not qualified because he does not have any acquaintance with oil issues and the related fields. The introduction of Aliabadi to the Majlis as oil minister is a great mistake, Pashang said, adding careful decisions should be made about the Oil Ministry, which is the country’s most important ministry. Javad Jahangirzadeh, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, also said Aliabadi will not get a vote of approval from the Majlis due to his lack of enough expertise in oil issues. Pointing to the fact that the Oil Ministry plays a key role in the country’s economy, he said that a highly expert person should be appointed to the ministry. He also spoke about Aliabadi’s not very good performance as director of Physical Education Organization. Abolfath Niknam, a member of the Majlis Mining and Industry Committee, also said Aliabadi has not left any great record behind so how it will be possible that lawmakers will approve him as oil minister.
In interviews with IRAN newspaper, MP Mahdi Kouchakzadeh said that questioning and impeaching Cabinet members are two supervisory tools at the hands of the Majlis to defend the people’s rights. However, it would not be appropriate if the Majlis use those tools to show its animosity, he added. MP Mohammad-Javad Abtahi also said if it is felt that certain lawmakers are seeking to undermine the government through questioning or impeaching officials, they must be prevented from doing so. MP Fatemeh Alia also said that the government’s violations of law should not be blown out of proportion.
