TEHRAN -- Head of the Department of Environment has said that 35 million Iranians are affected by air pollution.

Masoumeh Ebtekar categorized the causes of air pollution in two groups, automobiles and dust, IRNA reported on Tuesday.
As part of efforts to reduce the effects of the first category, the polluted gasoline supply was reduced, according to Ebtekar.

As for the second category, she said, Iran will be affected by dust for 10 years.

She added that tackling the problem of dust needs taking large-scale measures.

She pointed out that Iran has one of the highest densities of micrometer-size floating particles in the air.

Iranians are affected by chemicals that are around in the air and their bodies’ immune system is altering as a result, which makes it easy for them to catch different diseases, Ebtekar underlined.
