New theater complex to open in Tehran

TEHRAN – Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf said that a new theater complex will open in Tehran by the end of the Iranian calendar year.
He made the remarks during the annual Tehran Municipality iftar (breaking fast) dinner with the artists at the Iranian Artists Forum on Monday.Qalibaf stressed that the Saba Theater Complex will be one of the best equipped complexes in the country.
He added that one of the policies of the Tehran Municipality is to develop artistic and cultural infrastructures in the capital Tehran.
“As you can see, this progress is obvious in different fields such as music, cinema and theater, and even in the religious fields such as mosques,” he added.
He also talked about the management of art and theatrical complexes constructed by the Tehran Municipality and said, “We have always tried to leave these complexes to those active in art.
“We believe it would be better if the Saba Theater Complex is run by the Iranian Artists Forum,” he added.
However, he said that he has asked the managers of the Art and Cultural Organization of the Tehran Municipality and the forum to offer their proposals for a final decision.
Actors Reza Kianian, Dariush Arjomand, filmmaker Masud Kimiaii, musicians Mohammad Sarir and Abdolhossein Mokhtabad, and calligrapher Gholamhossein Amirkhani were among the participating guests.
The Saba Theatrical Complex is located on Shariati St., in the Baq-e Saba neighborhood.
