TEHRAN – The Algerian Cultural Festival opened at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Tuesday attended by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati and Algerian Ambassador Abdelmoun’aam Ahriz.
Several Iranian artists and foreign ambassadors were also among the participating guests at the opening ceremony, Persian media reported on Wednesday. An exhibition introducing the thriving tourism industry of Algeria, beautiful handicrafts, traditional costumes and traditional cuisine has been set up during the four-day event.
Gillo Pontecorvo’s 1966 black-and-white film “The Battle of Algiers”, which recreates France’s suppression of the 1950s Algerian uprising, has also been selected to be screened at the tower during the program.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Jannati called art the manifestation of a nation’s culture and the best means to introduce a nation and its message of peace.
He regarded art the joint language of mankind that is not restricted to time and place. “Art enjoys deep meaning and concept, and the created artworks show the great honor of that nation.”
Pointing to the good cultural relations between the two countries, he said, “Cultural exchange between Iran and Algeria is increasing and many educational, cultural and academic documents have been signed by the two countries”.
Algeria will also be hosting an Iranian art and cultural festival in October. The four-day festival will open on October 9 at the Palace of Ahmed Bey in the city of Constantine.
