Iranian, Turkish virtuosos to team up for fusion concerts in U.S., Canada

@t= TEHRAN - Four-time Grammy Award nominee Iranian kamancheh (spike-fiddle) player Kayhan Kalhor and Turkish baglama (lute) master Erdal Erzincan are scheduled to perform their newest round of fusion concerts in Canada and the U.S. during November.

The concerts will commence at Vancouver’s Centennial Theater on November 19.

Next performance will be at the Herbst Theater of San Francisco War Memorial Performing Art Center on November 20.

They will leave the U.S. to Canada to give their final performance at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga on November 22.

The performances will revolve around traditional music of Persia and the Ottoman Turkey.

Kalhor has studied Persian traditional and folk music alongside Western classical music. He co-founded the ensemble Dastan and has worked with a wide range of artists including, Indian sitarist Shujaat Hussain Khan, the Kronos Quartet, and the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma.

Erzincan is one of the most distinguished folk musicians of his generation in Turkey, teaching at his own Baglama Music Academy in Istanbul and performing around the world.
