TEHRAN – Four Iranian short movies are competing in the 18th Annual Sarasota Film Festival, which is currently underway in Sarasota, Florida.

The shorts are “Sormeh” directed by Azadeh Qochaq, “Dark To Dark” by Omid Khaled, “Autumn Leaves” by Saman Hosseinpur and “Personal Assistance” by Naomi Despres.

The festival, which opened on Friday, will screen “Sonita”, a coproduction of Iran, Germany and Switzerland.

Directed by Rokhsareh Qaemmaqami from Iran, the documentary tells the story of an Afghan refugee who lives in Iran far from her family.

The organizers are scheduled to honor Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren with the Legend Award. She has been invited to attend a question-and-answer session about her career spanning more than five decades.

Dozens of films from around the world are scheduled to be screened in the various sections of the 10-day festival.
