altTEHRAN – IRGC forces captured the main base of the counter-revolutionary group PJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) in northwest Iran, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps announced on Monday.

According to the statement, IRGC ground forces on Sunday night carried out a clean-up operation near the city of Sardasht and drove PJAK terrorists out of their main base.

PJAK was established in 2003. Its camps and bases are mostly located in Iraq, near the border with Iran. PJAK uses Iraqi Kurdistan’s soil as a safe haven for organizing terrorist actions against the Islamic Republic.

Since July 11, IRGC forces have carried out several major operations against PJAK terrorist and have inflicted heavy casualties on the group.

The IRGC has announced that the operations are being conducted to clear terrorists out of the region.

The IRGC has also said that PJAK terrorists could be granted Islamic clemency if they abandon their armed struggle against the Islamic Republic.
