Cadillac Introduces New Night-Vision Technology

RUESSELSHEIM, Germany Cadillac has announced it will introduce new night-vision technology later this year. The Detroit- based luxury car maker says it will be the world's first auto manufacturer to use the technology. An infrared camera mounted in the radiator grille is the heart of the new system. The camera will produce an infrared, heat- based image of the street and its surroundings which will be projected in a head- up display on the lower edge of the windshield mount.

The technology should reveal animals or people hidden by vegetation or obscured in night-time darkness along the roadside or still-warm vehicles ahead on the highway but outside of headlight range or other obstacles, says General Motors in Ruesselsheim. The night vision system is expected to work even in snow or fog and glare from oncoming traffic will not disrupt it. Cadillac will begin offering the technology on its North American luxury model Deville. The two-seat Evoq Roadster on display at the Geneva auto show from March 11 to March 21 is also equipped with the technology.
