TEHRAN -- Veteran Iranian filmmaker and actor Iraj Qaderi died after a long illness at Tehran’s Mehrad Hospital early morning on Sunday. He was 77 years of age.

 

Qaderi was suffering from lung cancer for four years. He was admitted to the hospital in mid-April and shortly after, he went into a coma and died.

 

He was buried at the Bibi Sakineh Cemetery near the city of Karaj on Sunday without the official funeral is usual for Iranian celebrities.

 

Qaderi made his acting debut with a cameo role in “The Crossroads of Events”, directed by Samuel Khachikian in 1954. He began study medicine in a university in Tehran. However he left his study unfinished and joined the cast of “The spring of Water of Life” in 1959.

 

He then worked as a producer for “The Cobweb”, “Dead End”, and “Sear of the Scandal”, which all were written by writer and poet Ahmad Shamlu.

 

He made his directorial debut in 1966 in “Leilaj”. Qaderi directed over 60 films, in most of which he acted, before the victory of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

 

He returned to the stage with “Dada”, “The Imperiled”, “Plunder” and several other films. 

 

He appeared in “Aquarium” in 2005 after a 23-year hiatus in his career in acting. 

 

“The Network” was his last film, which was directed in 2010.

 

“I like scenes from ‘The Men’s Alley’ and ‘Back and Dagger’, which were warmly welcomed by people, but I have not made my favorite film yet and I have not played my favorite role yet,” Qaderi told the Persian service of ISNA in an interview in 2004.
