TEHRAN -- A collection of historical scores dating back to the Qajar era (1779-1924) was unveiled at Tehran’s Golestan Palace Museum on Wednesday evening.

 

The scores had been composed by an obscure Austrian musician named Joseph Mauchner in a book entitled “Fantasy of a Trip to Europe”.

 

The descriptions have been handwritten in French in the book, which comprises 18 pages. It has been dedicated to Qajar king Mozaffar ad-Din Shah (1853-1907).

 

The book is one of greatest musical documents of the country, the Iranian musician Nader Mashayekhi, who has conducted research on this book, said during the unveiling ceremony.  

 

The pieces of the collection have been composed for piano based on the route Mozaffar ad-Din Shah followed during his second trip to Europe, he added.

 

“It seems that the collection had been commissioned by the shah, because the musician had made many efforts to give an ambiance of the Iranian music to the pieces of the collection,” Mashayekhi stated.

 

Photos of the book are currently on display at the Golestan Palace Museum in an exhibition, which runs until June 20.
