Pak-Iran gas pipeline project will cater need of our energy requirement besides putting our economy on track of development; therefore, the Pakistan government should not accept external pressure being put from some countries to halt this project.

 

This was said by Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Salma Hashmi who was talking to media persons here on Wednesday. "Our national economy is facing crisis due to power and gas load shedding and our industrial units are being closed or shifted to Malaysia, Bangladesh and India," she said adding that completion of Pak-Iran gas pipeline project could save our industry from further devastation.

 

She noted that Iran has already completed 90 percent work of lying of 56-inch diameter 7th Iranian gas pipeline in its city of Zahidan while the project would be completed by September 2013. She said that after the gas pipeline project is made operational, natural gas supply would start from Boshera city of Iran which would be supplied to Pakistani cities via its province of Balochistan.

 

She regretted that some international forces were opposing this project of 900 kilometer long gas pipeline from Iranian city to Balochistan province adding that however, our government would have to wave off this pressure in the larger interest of the country.

 

She further said that Pakistan government should also get benefit from the offer of Iran who was ready to immediately inject 1000MW electricity into Pakistani high transmission line. "If we accept the Iranian offer, it can help in resolving our power load shedding issue with immediate effect," Ms. Hashmi said.

 

She hoped that under-construction mega trade complex in border town of Taftan would boost trade and business between Iran and Pakistan.
