Iranian director to stage Wagner’s Tannhäuser in Germany

TEHRAN – Iranian director Amir-Reza Kuhestani is scheduled to stage German composer Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany.
A cast of foreign actors will perform the opera in five performances, two of which will take place at the Darmstadt State Theater on April 22 and 30, the Darmstadt State Theater has announced on its website.
Tannhäuser is an 1845 opera composed in three acts based on two German legends: Tannhäuser, the legendary medieval German Minnesänger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest.
Three more performances have also been arranged for May 14 and 25 and June 15.
The performances have been organized based on an invitation from Darmstadt State Theater director Karsten Wiegand.
The cast includes Deniz Yilmaz, David Pichlmaier, Oleksandr Prytolyuk, Minseok Kim, Nicolas Legoux, Michael Pegher, Thomas Mehnert, KS Katrin Gerstenberger, Martin Snell and Edith Haller.
Will Humburg will collaborate with the troupe as a musical director and Mitra Najmabadi is the stage designer of the project.
The Darmstadt State Theater is a theater company and building presenting opera, ballet, plays and concerts.
Wagner was a German composer, theater director, polemicist and conductor who is primarily known for his operas.
