‘Intelligence chief should clarify surveillance issue’

December 27, 2017 - 9:10

TEHRAN – Government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht on Tuesday urged the Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi to clarify the issue of the ministry’s surveillance program.

Nobakht made the remarks in response to a question on the Rouhani administration’s Citizen Rights Charter, which enshrines freedom of speech and the right to privacy.

“The administration is not eavesdropping on citizens and in most cases, due to the citizens’ rights, we do not intrude on people’s private lives,” he stated.

President Rouhani recently said surveillance violates the right to privacy.
