Ashiqs from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran attended the congress, which opened at the northwestern Iranian city on November 24.

Ashiqlar is a unique style of traditional music, which is mainly common in Iran’s Azarbaijan region, the Azerbaijan Republic, Turkey and several other countries.

Ashiqlar music is performed by an ashiq, also spelled ashik and ashug. He is a mystic troubadour or traveling bard, who blends together instrumental and vocal music, dance, poetry and storytelling in his performances. (IRNA)
