Iran Holds Up to 3bn Barrels of Oil in Caspian Sea TEHRAN Oil reserves in Iran's part of the Caspian Sea amount to between 2.5 and three billion barrels, state radio reported.
"Preliminary studies of the Caspian Sea reveal that some 2.5 to 3 billion barrels belong to Iran," said Mahdi Mirmoezzi, deputy head of the National Iranian Oil Company.
-- Japanese Energy Delegation Arrives in Tehran TEHRAN A Japanese delegation arrived in Tehran Monday for two days of meetings with Iranian officials, state radio said, in what are the first-ever high-level direct energy talks between the two nations.
The delegation, linked to Tokyo's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), is to meet Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh and Chief of Central Bank of Iran, Mohsen Nourbakhsh, it said.
--Nine Members of Muslim Brethren Arrested TEHRAN The Egyptian police arrested nine members of the Muslim Brethren. All books and cassettes were confiscated from their houses. They are accused of trying to overthrow the regime and recruit workers and students.
A member of the group said, the objective of the arrests is to prevent the victory of the brethren in the Parliament elections.
-- Money Snatched Away TEHRAN A fund earmarked for the payment of wages of the employees of Wrestling Federation was snatched away while being carried to the federation here. Six people attacked M. Rezaei who was carrying 10,400,000 rials and fled on three motorbikes.
-- Sanei Hails Khatami's Performance TEHRAN President Khatami's administration has rendered valuable services in the economic and political fields, said Ayatollah Yousef Sanei. The enemy tries to disappoint the youth, but we must raise hope in the hearts of the people, to thwart the enemy's plots, he said.
The present generation wants to rectify the mistakes, he said, adding the Parliament must prepare the grounds for the reforms.
-- Resignation of Board Members Discussed in TCC TEHRAN The Tehran City Council (TCC) held a closed-door meeting yesterday to discuss the resignation of two Presiding Board members, Ebrahim Asgharzadeh and Ahmad Hakimipour.
The resignation of Hassan Abedini has already been accepted.
The session was also scheduled to discuss the new head of the council.
The two councillors resigned from the Presiding Board because some members do not attend its sessions regularly.
