Detente Policy Has Helped Increase Foreign Investment: MP

SAVEH, Central Province Thanks to the policy of detente pursued by President Mohammad Khatami, the volume of foreign investment in Iran rose to $2.5 billion over the past three years, said an MP from Saveh Ali-Akbar Ja'fari here Monday.
Ja'fari told a group of workers' representative on the occasion of Government Week (August 23-29) that China managed to attract $260 billion foreign investment in the 1993-1998 period while Iran just absorbed $750 million.
He stressed the need for foreign investment to develop national economy and said security is the main prerequisite to foreign investment to take place.
